About Us

“Nunes Corrêa" was founded in 1856 by Jacinto Nunes Correia, who came from a family of tailors which has been traced back as far as 1786. Jacinto offered the highest quality at very high prices.  So revered was Jacinto as a tailor that clients included members of the aristocracy, bishops, leading politicians, writers and the Portuguese Royal Family.

Today “Nunes Corrêa” still offers its traditional high quality, but at much more affordable prices. Our prices are competitive because we source directly from our factories in Portugal and have been producing our own shoes for over 60 years.

Steeped in tradition, this beautiful wood panelled shop has stood in Rua Augusta since 1919 to date, in the main street of Lisbon’s central shopping district.  Sweep through the magnificent triumphal arch onto Rua Augusta - a pedestrian street boasting mosaic pavements, outdoor cafes, international shops, street artisans and of course “Nunes Corrêa” itself.

Innovation has always been important to us as we continue to develop our styling and materials to meet with customer demand and it is to this end that we now offer our online shop with a brand new team of experts behind it.

Andrea Afrifa is Marketing and UK Sales co-ordiantor. Equipped with a business degree from Leeds University, Andrea discovered quickly her passion for sales, as she trained in retail management for Thomas Pink in Jermyn Street.  Her love of travel then sent her round the world looking after duty free operations on world class cruise liners.  She then anchored down in London to be one of the founders of the highly acclaimed and largest restaurant booking website in Europe, toptable.  Not wanting to stop there, Andrea has had 2 kids and in the meantime has set up a highly successful children’s shoe shop, Stampede, located in Royal Tunbridge Wells.  She will shortly be expanding her shoe empire as she opens Heavenly Soles early in 2007 for women, as well as spear-heading the sales and marketing efforts in the UK for Nunes Correa.  To contact Andrea directly please email info@nunescorrea.com
